Language Detectives

Our Language Detectives:

Our Manifesto:

We recognise that we are so fortunate to go to a very culturally diverse school, where almost 40 languages are represented and many faiths and cultures are celebrated. We start learning French from 5 years old, which gives us a great head start and prepares us for future learning.

This year we are proud to work alongside Madame Elliot to help promote learning languages in our school and to be an additional helping hand. On a weekly basis the Language Detectives in Year 5 and Year 6 will organise the French Take Home Bags, which will encourage the younger children to share their learning with their families. Occasionally, we will also support Madame Elliot in the Year 1 and 2 lessons, modelling good French. We are going to promote language learning in our own classrooms by encouraging the other children to access Language Angels on Google classrooms and joining in Spelling Bee competitions. We will get involved in helping to organise the language day at the end of the year and working on projects with international schools.

Our roles as Language Detectives include:

Autumn Term update:

'During the autumn term, the Language Detectives have settled into their roles, being good role models in the classroom. The Year 5/6 LDs have taken on the responsibility of collecting and checking the contents of the 6 French take home bags on a weekly basis. Some of the older LDs have supported learning in Year 1 and Year 2, helping the young learners to grow in confidence.'

Spring Term update:

This term the Language Detectives in Year 3,4,5 and 6 have formed a partnership with children at a school in Lyon France. We have used ‘Padlet’, a digital app, to write individual responses to our new French friends, developing our international connections. We are now waiting for their responses. The Year 5/6 LDs have also spent time supporting children in Year 1 and 2, as well as continuing to collect the French bags each week.
