Mental Health & Well-Being Ambassadors
Our Mental Health and Well-Being Ambassadors:
Our Manifesto:
Our aim is to ensure all members of the school, at every level, are aware of what mental health is and of the positive/negative impact it can have on an individual’s well-being. We aim to promote well-being by making Western House Academy a place where everyone feels a sense of belonging; by being an integral part of a community culture where we look out for each other. Our team is a voice for the greater school community and we will help organise activities that promote well-being across the whole school.
Our roles as Mental Health & Well-Being Ambassadors include:
Ensure they are keeping a record of the popularity of all the activities that were completed on the wellbeing days.
Discuss with their classes to find where the gaps are and what other activities we could include in the next wellbeing day.
Talk to children and assess if these activities are having a positive impact and if they are applying the use of some of them at home like meditation and going for nature walks.
Autumn Term update:
'This term, as Wellbeing Ambassadors, we have been asking children in our year group about their wellbeing by asking ”How are you feeling?” and listening carefully to their replies. We have also been asking our year groups what they have thought of the Wellbeing Day activities and if they have helped their wellbeing. We have been pleased that most children have enjoyed the activities and felt that they have been good for them. It was good to hear that some children have used the strategies they have learnt in everyday life.
Next term, we will be putting forward our suggestions for activities for making wellbeing days even better and helping to find out more about whether the days are helping children’s wellbeing.'
Spring Term update:
'This term we have been talking to the children in different classes to see if they have any worries and informing them about the worry box in their classroom.
We have supported our adult leaders and given feedback on our monthly Well-Being days:
Year 1 has so far enjoyed the activities where they get to exercise outside and learn to draw.
Year 2 really enjoyed creating imaginary drawings on who could really live on Mars.
Year 3 really enjoyed learning about techniques (like meditation, yoga and breathing exercises) that calm us down during times of anxiety.
Year 4 really enjoyed making the Environment poster along with painting stones to go under the Elephant (at the front of the building) with positive comments.
Year 5 really enjoyed cooking food from different cultures and exposing their whole class to their cultures.
Year 6 found it very educational and exciting to make different antibodies from paper.
This term we also shared the wellbeing journals, from each year group, and magpied ideas from each other on what we could do next time to display our work and make it look even better. '
Summer Term update:
'We have suggested activities for Well-Being days: meditation, painting, listening to calm music, watching movies, learning prayers from different religions, art, having parents in more often and yoga. We have spoken with the children in our year groups and asked them to feedback about how they feel Well-Being days are helpful and how they benefit each child. '
