Language Detectives

Our Language Detectives:

Our Manifesto:

We are lucky to attend a school which is culturally diverse, with children from a broad range of backgrounds and speaking 37 languages. We live in a connected world where it is becoming increasingly important to explore and discover other ways of living, thinking and communicating. Therefore, at WHA, we get a head start at learning French from Year 1.  We work together to help promote a love for language learning and we are encouraged to share our own languages. We recognise that language learning is important, not only as it helps us to better understand how our own language works and improve our communication skills, but it also boosts our brain power and opens up future opportunities.  Our aim is to help to support language learning across the school by being good role models within the class, but also by contributing our ideas and sharing our knowledge, experience and enjoyment for learning French with the younger learners in our school. We recognise that all children should have an enjoyable, vivid and real language education to equip them to play their part in our future world.

Our roles as Language Detectives include:

Autumn Term update:

"I enjoy learning French because I like learning how to write new words and pronouncing them correctly so that when I go to France I can speak correctly. I already speak some German at home, so I like to learn languages.

I like being a Language Detective because I can be someone people can look up to and be someone to help others progress in learning French. I like being a class role model demonstrating how to do activities and games first and helping Mrs Elliot, encouraging the class to be good language learners."

Spring Term update:

'We have collected the French bags for Mrs Elliot from Year 1 and check that the inventory is all there. We have been  helping Mrs Elliot in the classroom and helping other children.'

Summer Term update:

'We have all made sure that the bags in Year 1 and 2 have everything that they should have, for example, we have to make sure there are 10 bean bags, all the game pieces, a book, a diary, a bag of fake French money and the checklist. Apart from the bags, we had a Spelling Bee where each Language Detective got together and got all of the words for it.'
