Playground Buddies

Our Playground Buddies for this Term:

Our Manifesto:

Our Playground Buddies at Western House Academy are responsible for many aspects of our playground. Through their teamwork they set up, manage and tidy away our buddy area as well as organising games, reminding children of our values and assisting with friendships.

Our buddies are friendly and approachable and their aims are to ensure that everyone has a friend to play with and that our playground is a safe and happy place for all.

Our role as a Playground Buddy includes:

Autumn Term update:

'This term we have been helping to make the playground a fun, enjoyable friendly place to be.

We set up the equipment every day and support children who are lonely or haven’t got anyone to play with.

We have some new equipment that the children are enjoying playing, especially the new connect 4 and the Velcro balls and discs.

As peer buddies we have enjoyed the responsibility of creating games for children to join in with and getting to know all the children.'

Spring Term update:

'We make a difference because we buddies like to help children who are sad, alone and left out. When we put out the equipment, we make sure it is all put out safely for the children to play with. When we see a child hurting another child emotionally or physically, we try to make sure they learn from their mistakes of hurting another child. We generally teach children how to play games with different equipment and different people. Through our work, we try to make sure the playground is a fun, safe place for all.'

Summer Term update:

'Our role as playground buddies is to support children on the playground and ensure all the equipment is taken care of by putting it in and out of the tin at break times , ready for lunchtime, on a daily rota. The equipment is used to make sure all the children are having fun at break times but if they want to be by themselves they can go to our new area called the quiet area. This term we have set up a new quiet area. The quiet area is designed for children to go to if they have a rainbow lanyard. If they have that they can spend some time by themselves enjoying the equipment. We also support children who are having problems on the playground or feeling lonely.'
