Peer Mentors
Our Peer Mentors:
Our Manifesto:
The purpose of Peer Mentors is to provide advice and guidance whilst acting as a positive role model for younger children who may require some extra nurturing and support.
Our Mentors aim to help improve children's self-esteem, confidence, communication and problem solving skills and well as their sense of belonging in our school.
Our roles as Peer Mentors include:
We support younger children all around the school .
On Thursday, we go onto the playground early and play with children.
We support the children with: anxiety, friendships, behaviour, to show the values and we try to be a trusted role model to the younger children.
On Fridays, we go to our allocated child classroom; we help them with their work, play with them, talk to them about their behaviour if they are not being kind to other children and more.
We speak to the teachers about what they need support with/improve on.
The peer mentors give feedback to Miss Gregory and discuss anything we are worried about and key issues.
When the children have achieved the goal we set out for them, we have a closing session where we give a keepsake for them.
Autumn Term update:
'This term we have enjoyed the responsibility of getting to know our mentees. We have been assisting them with friendships on the playground and going into their lessons on a Friday and completing work with them or completing a fun activity.
We love seeing how exited the children are when we meet with them and have enjoyed watching them form new friendships and follow the WHA values.
We meet every week to feedback to Miss Gregory and discuss how we can support the children.
Next term we are looking at each working with a new child.'
Spring Term update:
'As a Peer Mentor, we have supported younger students with: behaviour, friendships, anxiety and other problems. On certain days, we go out onto the playground and play with our allocated children and others. As well as, going to their classroom on a Friday to help in lessons, play with them or even have a simple chat.'
Summer Term update:
'We have enjoyed teaching the values to the children we support and helping them with their problems. This term we have spent lots of time playing with the children, getting to know them and helping them to share. We have had closing sessions with some children and had the chance to work with new children. We have really enjoyed building these relationships. As we are in year 6, we will be leaving this year, but we have enjoyed showing the new year 5 mentors the role.'
