Green Team

Our Green Team Members:

Our Manifesto:

"In our current climate, it is more important than ever that we address some of the environmental issues that the world faces. The Green Team aims to make Western House Academy greener - ‘one step at a time’ - with their motto of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’.  In using the values of ‘teamwork’, ‘courage’ and ‘perseverance’ members of the team work hard to ensure that the whole school recycles and reuses as much as possible. This ranges from the daily collection of paper and plastic bottles to the daily collection of green compostable waste from the kitchen. The recycled paper is then emptied into the large recycling bins and the compost is emptied into the compost bins.

The Green Team are also ambassadors for the school grounds, and regularly pick litter on the playground with a team of volunteers from across the school. The team also assists in the growing of fruit and vegetables in the Western House Academy’s garden area and some of this produce is sent to the kitchens and served up for the whole school to sample! The Green Team aims to create a green space that our community can be proud of. Therefore, we will influence change by educating, informing and involving our school community in all eco activities, such as the used school uniform clothes sale which happens regularly. We teach our students to make daily informed choices that will benefit their health and wellbeing as well as support the sustainability of our ecosystem. Small steps are taken regularly to help the environment, such as using the water butts that collect rain water instead of using tap water.

Our Green Team aims to add benefit by inducing positive change: for our students; school; local community; as well as our planet. The Green Team always strives to do better and harnesses the enthusiasm of students as a force for good. We believe in the motto, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
