Reading Ambassadors

Our Reading Ambassadors:

Our Manifesto:

As the Reading Ambassadors of Western House Academy we show the value of teamwork by ensuring that Phonics and Accelerated Reader books are well organised and treated with respect.  Our main role is to organise books so they are engaging for others to choose.  We also support Mrs Kearney with choosing books to be added to our AR library - this keeps it fresh and exciting for all!

Our first development this year, is to set up a programme where we will support the teacher to hear Year 1 children read.  We hope to support them on their journey to become fluent readers who love reading.

Our aim as Reading Ambassadors is to provide a positive reading experience for all children so that they can develop knowledge that will support them across the curriculum or so that they can escape to another world that only reading for pleasure gives you!  We want everyone in our community to find a book (or books) they love!

Our roles as Reading Ambassadors include:

Autumn Term update:

'We have cleaned and tidied up the AR library so that it is easier for people to find their books.  It has also been our responsibility to stick new stickers on and fix broken books.  We have added some new books to the library, kindly donated by Mrs Gregory.  We also collect the Yr 1 and Reception books and organise them in the phonics library.  Next term, we will be reading with Yr1 children but this has had to be put on hold due to Covid.'

Spring Term update:

'As a reading ambassadors, we do some helpful jobs. Some of them are:

· Reading with the Year 1s. We read with different children every Wednesday. If they mispronounce a word, or are having trouble with reading, we help them but also let them try first. We then write in their diary.

· We also collect the books from the Year 1 classes and neatly put them away in the correct place.

· We keep the AR library tidy.'

Summer Term update:

'This term has been much the same, ensuring that books are well organised in the AR libraries and also the Yr 1 phonics books.  We have also continued to hear Year 1 read.  In the last few weeks we will be helping sort new books for every class's book corners. '
