Surrealism Collage and Painting

The subject for my creation is that I looked through numerous National Geographic magazines until I found three different pictures that somewhat related to each other and painted them. The three different pictures included the mountain in the background, the river and guy fishing, and the branches that cover part of the painting. The painting was made starting with pencil, sketching out the drawing and then once I was satisfied with my sketch, I started to paint starting with the back where the mountains and sky was and then moved my way forward ending with the branches.

One technique I used was starting with pencil and creating a sketch of the picture before I started to paint. The sketch helped me with what colors go where and it helped me with the proportions for each section and making sure that they were accurate. Another technique I used was starting with the background and moving my way towards the front . This technique helps you to prevent mistakes and paint going somewhere you don't want it in a space where you already finished the area. My project evolved over time because at first I was complacent with how the mountains came out but then after talking with the art teacher I included some yellow-white(ish) paint on the tops of some peaks to try to show the snow.

If I could go back and make some things stronger and revise/change some parts one thing I would definitely do is working on the water some more. I think I could have done a better job drawing the wrinkles in the water. Another thing that I could have done a better job at is the mountains. I think even though it would have been very challenging, I think I could have included some more detail and include the darker and lighter spots all around the mountain.
