Competition Design

To start, the subject of my first drawing on the left is a drawing of the google logo and I added some different things to it, all relating to space. This drawing includes a spaceship, stars, and Saturn. This drawing was made with pencils and sharpies. I used the pencil as an outline of my drawing and I used the pencil to sketch everything out. After that, I used multiple different type of sharpies such as red, orange, black, gray, and yellow to color everything in. I chose to draw a space theme because in the future I think that we will be able to explore/travel to different planets, the main one being Mars of course. My second drawing was a drawing for the organ and tissue donation and you had to make a poster for the competition. My poster includes a butterfly, green ribbon, and flowers in the background. I decided to draw the butterfly because it symbolizes organ donations and the green ribbon also represent that as long with some other things. I made this drawing starting with a pencil, I sketched everything first and once I was satisfied with the outline I then went in with pens, colored pencils, and sharpies to finish the drawing.

One composition rule/technique that I used was drawing very lightly with a pencil so it was able to erase and it wouldn't leave creases all over the paper. Also by drawing very lightly it is easy to erase the pencil marks fully with no graphite left over and it looks untouched again. I did this technique for both the first and second drawings. My first drawing changed over time because at first I was not liking my planet one bit and my original plan was to draw Mars, because it makes more sense because we are trying to start a colony there in the near future but because I wasn't able to include the details I wanted to I switched the planet to Saturn which was a much simpler design and the only challenging part was the ring around it and that wasn't even that bad. My second drawing changed over time because at first when I originally thought I finished the drawing I didn't really have a lot of things in the background just the cross-hatched squares and I wasn't really happy with that. After a day I decided to come back and include a couple of flowers to include some more color and more detail.

If I could go back and change something on the first drawing I would definitely change the use of black. I think I used way too much black and it kind of takes over the drawing and if I varied the colors a little bit more, It would look a lot cleaner/nicer. For my second drawing, I would definitely change my background and all the squares I used. I only did this because I couldn't think of an idea for the background but now looking back at it I definitely could have done a better job and adding more detail.
