Self Portrait

The subject of my creation was that I had to draw a self portrait using charcoal. To draw this you had to use the grid method which makes you focus on dozens of smaller squares to form one big one. I like this method because it is easier to for you to get the dimensions correctly proportioned to you face easier compared if you didn't use the grid method. My work was made using a charcoal pencil, eraser and tortillon. I used the tortillon the most because it was the easiest way to smudge and shade the paper using only a little amount of charcoal. I started in the top left corner of the paper so that it won't smudge the rest of the paper compared to me going all over the place.

One technique I used while creating this drawing was using the grid concept which really made the drawing very easy to do. Another technique I used was outlining my drawing with a normal pencil and then going over the lines with the charcoal starting from the top left corner so I wouldn't forget to miss any lines. My project changed/revised doing the process of drawing it because I either did one of two things. I either completely messed up in the proportions of it and had to restart that square, or I either forgot to draw something and had to go back in and include what I forgot to add the first time.

The meaning behind my artwork is that it is a self portrait of me that I had a lot of fun making. Even though I don't really like drawing with charcoal, I thought this project was much better than the cat I did and I had more fun making it and thought it was more interesting. If I could revise this and draw it again, two things that bothers me that I would definitely change is my mouth and my noise. Both of those things can definitely get fixed and those are my two weakest things in my drawing.
