Ceramics 2

I completely feel like the Ceramics II experience was successful in multiple ways. To start, just the atmosphere is unlike any other class. It is so laid back but at the same time so productive, it was definitely a class I was looking forward to every other day. Furthermore, the fellow students in this class were amazing, all of them were so relaxed and fun to hang out with. Also, you as a teacher-created this amazing environment starting with the music you'd always played as long with always willing to help out. Personally, I think I got a lot better at ceramics compared to ceramics I, I was able to create things other than plates and mugs and explore my creativity and challenge my skills in one way or another to create interesting projects.

The hardest thing to do in this course was glazing. I say this because you'd think you would be glazing everything numerous times but when the final product comes out there are still spots you miss and show the regular clay, which looks sloppy. In my tile project especially, I took extra time and came during advisories to make sure I got every corner with the specific glazes and did numerous coats, not just one or two. By doing this, I was able to create projects that looked nice. Personally, I think the glazes you pick and how much effort you put into glazing is what makes or breaks the project. What I mean by this is that if you glaze without putting in that much effort and missed spots or didn't do enough layers of glaze it will show in the final product and won't look that good. However, if you do take your time and pick the right glazes specified for your type of project and be patient with glazing you will make the project so much better at the end.

My favorite project was definitely the "respond and confront" where I made chicken and waffles and debated with fellow classmate Jackson Carr (who debated pancakes are better) to prove to him that waffles are better than pancakes. This is my favorite because this was the best project I did without a doubt in my mind but more importantly, I had the most fun doing this project. To go back and forth with Jackson having a friendly competition to see whose project will come out better both pushed us to try a little bit harder. However, even though my to-go box got destroyed in the kiln, which would've made my project so much better, I am still extremely happy with the results of this project.

My least favorite project was the mask one due to it coming out the worst out of all of them. I did have big hopes for this project but however, something about making a fish is a lot easier said than done. I struggled with every aspect of the fish and overall was just hard. I wish I did something more simplistic where I would've enjoyed the process and the outcome a lot more.

In terms of the way the class was run it was amazing. The pacing was just right, giving the students the perfect amount of time to start and finish a project without rushing them. Furthermore, what worked for me was not being afraid of asking questions. You were always there giving advice in one way or another to help us. Lastly, I don't think I would change anything about this course I really truly enjoyed every part of it.
