Magazine cutouts on tagboard

Acrylic and paint marker on canvas

The main subject that guided this artwork was the color pink. As I flipped through magazines I started to pick out pictures with pink or purple details. As I was picking out images I didn't know exactly what I wanted to make. I just picked out images that stood out to me. I wanted the main focus to be around the mountain and sunset. That image was one of my favorites that I chose and started to pick out patterns similar to it so that the whole piece of art would go together.
To make the collage I used tagboard and mixed images from magazines. Each image from the magazine is sort of different. Some images are shinier and others are more matte. For the text behind my cutouts, I just found big blocks of text in a magazine. It didn't really matter to me what the text said because I knew I wouldn't be using the words in my finished piece. For my actual painting, I used paint and paint markers on canvas. I mixed mostly warm colors to match my collage.
The process to make this painting felt long. First I flipped through lots of magazines and cut out images I liked. I had lots of images picked out that I didn't use, and only actually used six images. I arranged the cutouts ontop of big chunks of text. Then I glued the cutouts on tagboard and started to paint on canvas. When I pealed off the tape, I decided I wanted to break the border. I pulled the text bubbles outside of the border and I really like how it turned out!
