The idea behind this artwork is basically life and trees. I think it is interesting how we get so much from trees and plants, and how we benefit so much from them, but I never really think about it. I think the colors coming out of the tree represent all of the things trees give us, like oxygen. Then when all the things we take out of trees are gone, the tree is left empty. In the same way that all of the colors leave the tree, the tree is left white and empty.
The specific materials I used were colored pencils and a pencil. I like more simple art projects, ones that I can take with me anywhere and work on anywhere. Colored pencils are very fun to work with so that's why I chose this material. I used a regular H pencil to sketch out my border and to draw the outline of the tree. I tried to blend the colors of my colored pencils but I am realizing that I should've used a tortillion to help me further.
My first step in this process was to create the outline of my tree. I chose to do something similar to a negative space drawing because it was one of my favorite projects to do with the leaves. I drew a few different types of trees before realizing leaves on trees are actually quite hard to draw, so I went for a more simplistic yet efficient style. I decided to draw minimal leaves but enough to make it look like a tree. Next, I started with my green colored pencil and started to blend the rest of the colors out. This took so long and my hand was in lots of pain by the end. Overall I am glad about the way this turned out.
