For this project, we had to make forms that represent the idea of duality. Duality is defined as the quality or state of having two different or opposite parts. For this project, I really battled with myself on what to make. I first wanted to make a sun and moon, but I knew I wasn't going to be happy with the result. I really tried to brainstorm a unique idea, I didn't want to make something basic. I knew I wanted to make some sort of vase, and then I had the idea to make a fish vase. In order to meet the requirements of the duality project, I decided to make a shark that goes along with this fish vase. The fish represents the bottom of the food chain or the prey, and the shark represents the top of the food chain, or the predator. To start this project, I used slabs to make the shape of the vases. I measured each slab so that my vases were as even as possible. Once I had my forms, I started to add the details like the lips, eyes, fins, and teeth on the shark. I really struggled to make the mouth of my shark look realistic, but in the end, I am very happy with how it turned out. This is honestly one of my favorite projects that I have ever done, and I am super happy with the results!
