Ceramics 2

My experience in Ceramics II was very successful, and I had a lot of fun in this class. I was able to make projects that I am proud of, while also hanging out with my friends and relaxing.  My time in Ceramics II was also successful in the sense that none of my projects broke, and they all turned out how I expected them to. Ceramics II is very different from Ceramics I. Ceramics II is much more independent, we are able to choose what technique we want to use and how we form our pots. I really enjoyed this part of the class, and I feel like I was much more successful when I was able to use techniques I was confident with. My approach to projects in Ceramics II was much different than Ceramics I. In Ceramics I, I first thought of ways to follow the project expectations and then came up with an idea I liked. But in Ceramics II, I first thought of an idea I liked and then applied it to the project expectations. This allowed me to come up with projects that I truly love.

I think that the tile project challenged me the most. First of all, it was the first project after not using clay for a while. It definitely took me a second to remember all of the techniques. I also had to learn how to make the mold, use the mold, and make sure there were no undercuts or air bubbles in the mold. This was definitely new and I'm thankful that no huge challenges came with it. Once I made the mold, making the tiles was relatively easy. But, making the lobster boat was actually very hard. I did a few demos, but I found it very hard to work on something that small. This project is certainly one of my favorites and the challenges were worth it! I am most proud of my fish and shark vases. These projects turned out exactly how I imagined, and I love them so much! These are definitely my most creative projects, and also the projects that I spent the most time on. I love everything about them, from the forms to the glazes.

Overall, I think this class sets every student up for success and is very enjoyable. I love how students can work on their own, but also get help whenever they need it. I think independence is crucial in this class in order for students to make unique projects, and I love this aspect of the class. I also love that you can make pretty much anything you want in this class, it really lets students' creativity shine through. I don't think there is anything I would want to see done differently in this class, everything worked very well for me!
