Ink, charcoal, and graphite on watercolor paper
I chose this picture of my friends cat because it was one of the first pictures I took of her. I thought it would be a good idea to give my friend a drawing of her cat, so I started to draw Juno. I would've chose a picture of my dog, but his fur is very very dark, so it would be hard to draw. Sometimes you can't even see highlights on his fur in pictures. I knew this picture would be challenging but I still followed through with my ideas.
For the value strips we made one out of charcoal, one out of graphite, and one out of ink. The ink was definitely the most challenging because ink is very hard to blend. For the actual drawing, I used charcoal, ink, and a lot of erasing. Charcoal is hard to work with because it stains your paper but it also goes very fast which I was thankful for. I didn't know where to use ink so I mixed some ink with water and used it on the background. I also used it in some of the darker parts of my drawing.
To make this artwork I didn't really revise my work but I did have to erase portions of it and redraw it. For example, after many tries I couldn't get the nose to look right. So I had to keep erasing it until I got it to look decent. I also gridded my paper and went square by square, which worked out for me in the beginning but towards the end it started to look a little wonky.
