Artist Statement

For this assignment, we learned about the 17 rules/techniques in photography. We then took one picture for each rule and edited them to make that more visually pleasing. I took mine with my phone camera. I did them in chunks/not all at once. I took some at Sunday River, some in my backyard, some in my room, one in the car, one at a friend's house, and a few from my camera roll.

In the process of taking my 17 photos, I realized that they come out better when I'm not planning to be taking photos. It is better when I see a photo op and capture the moment. I got some of my best photos this way.

Most of the photos that I took are meaningful to my life in some way. They are of people, animals, and places that I love. Something that I struggled with doing this assignment was getting a photo for each rule. Some of the harder ones for me were, soft focus, formal balance, and high key lighting. I was able to overcome this by being patient and I eventually had opportunities for all of them.
