Coil and carve

For this unit, we learned the coil technique. This is when you roll the clay out into a long coil and create forms from wrapping it on itself. I made a vase of sorts. I started by creating a slab for the base and cutting it into a circle. I then used coils to build up a cylinder shape until it was as tall as I wanted it, making sure to keep it straight. After, I began to use the smoothing tool to smooth the outside and inside of my vase. the second requirement of this project was that we do some kind of carving to decorate it. I carved thick vertical stripes all the way down my vase and then smoothed out the edges. I then glazed it a blue color.
