Charcoal drawing

18x12

Fanny

For this drawing we started by choosing a photo to draw with charcoal and ink. We did it on colored paper it create a middle value to build off of. I chose a photo of my chicken, Fanny. I started by gridding out the photo and the paper. I then sketched it out lightly with pencil, and started shading with the charcoal. We also used white chalk for the hilights.

In this piece I used value and visual texture to balance out the drawing and show movement with the directions of the feathers.

This chicken was invincible, she survives through many hardships including getting hit by a car and frozen solid on the side of the road with a dislocated hip. She came back to full health after that, which most ordinary chickens would be incapable of. Because of this I decided she would be a good pet to draw for an art project. (along with the fact that I had a great picture to use.) My favorite parts of my drawing are the eye and the beak, I think that they came out pretty realistic to the photo. One thing that I struggled with was drawing it so they looked like feathers, and showed enough texture.
