Pandemonium
18"x 12"
Mr.Andreson had a still life of stools set up in the center of the classroom. We used viewfinders to select a section of the still life to draw on scale onto a paper. We focused on drawing the negative space, not the actual stools. First we did thumbnails sketches on a small paper, in order to see which composition looked the best. Then we picked one to transfer onto the larger paper. I started with pencil and traced over it with sharpie. After that I used a fine tipped sharpie to go in and create a different design in each shape. At first it just looked like a bunch of weird shapes, but as I added the patterns, it started to come together more. The image of the stools is very abstract but you can tell what I was.
A couple elements of art I used are texture and shape. Each shape has its own visual texture, they are all different, yet they have similarities that tie it together, that leads it to unity. My drawing looks unified because all the shaped sorta of match/go well together, but they are not exactly the same because they would not be very interesting. The places that are especially dark create contrast to the white paper, those places are where my eyes get drawn to when I look at it. All of these things are what makes my drawing interesting to look at.
The reason why I chose to draw all the little patterns is because that is what I draw when I am doodling. For this project we had so much freedom on what we could draw, so I decided to do something that I am familiar with and good at. I am most proud of the biggest shape in the top left corner I spent a lot of time on this one. I think that it is more creative than the other ones because it has more components in it. Something that I struggled with was coming up with a different design for each shape. It was difficult to to get too repetitive. Sometimes I had to just start without a plan, and for the most part, it came out better than I expected.
