Artist Statement
My topic for the sustained investigation is winter. I am also investigating how making things different colors than what they are "supposed to be" makes my art more interesting. Thinking about these things, I came up with the idea to make a winter scene divided into sections with different bright colors.
I sketched out the composition with pencil before used colored pencils for the bulk of the project. I made sure to burnish the colored pencil for pure color. I used sharpie to outline all the shapes and make them pop, and white paint pen for highlights and the snow on the trees.
I did this section by section. I would finish one color section and then move on to another one. It was actually a lot more time consuming than it looks. After I completed all that I had planned I decided that it needed more pop/definition do I added the sharpie lines and the paint pen.
