Winter #3

Aurora Borealis

Graphite, watercolor

8''x9''

Artist Statement

This is my third part of my mini sustained investigation. The idea behind this project for me was to see the impact that having part of it color and part not would have on the overall piece. I  used drawing pencils to make the log cabin and the snow. After that was done I used watercolor to attempt to paint aurora borealis in the sky. This did not come out as I planned because I didn't use watercolor paper so the paint did not spread how I wanted it to. I decided to keep the cabin and trees without color to put more emphasis on the sky.
