Artist Statement 

When I was given this assignment I immediately thought of the Olympics. I decided to draw an American track athlete. I thought of Allyson Felix because she is one of my personal role models. She runs similar events that I do. I love track and running and watching her in the Olympics this summer was a big inspiration.

I used graphite to sketch it out at first. After that, I used colored pencils. I made sure to burnish so that the color was pure. 

  This assignment took me a long time because I was trying to produce my best work. I have also never made a big project with colored pencils before so it took some learning.
