Artist Statement

The main idea that guided this artwork was to turn a simple pure contour show drawing into an abstract masterpiece. In order to do this, I had to zoom in on my zoom multiple times in order to create a simple drawing of lines. I picked my second zoom-in of my shoe to turn into my Abstract Zoomed Shoe was to create an Abstract City scene. I wanted to create an Abstract City scene because a city has a lot of depth and many options. A city can have many things that can add to an interesting piece of artwork and add depth.

This artwork was made on an 11" x 14" piece of printmaking paper with a half-inch border. To in large my drawing I used a pencil to lightly draw in my lines then a sharpie pen to make sure my lines were clear. To add color to my artwork I first used the art room BLICK markers during my two class periods in the art room. After my class period, I did not bring them home so at home I used Prismacolor markers to finish adding the color. As you can see I created 5 scenes in my art. The top is a n=sunset cityscape. On the left, an abstract apartment building. On the top/middle right, I drew a highway. The bottom right, a rushing river. Lastly the bottom middle, an upside-down reverse sunset cityscape.

To make this Abstract Zoomed Shoe drawing I did what you would basically think when someone tells you they made a drawing. But, one challenge I faced creating this drawing was with my black marker. To create the shadowed buildings and the night sky I had to use a black marker. My black marker in my Prismacolor set was completely dried out. After, searching my house for half an hour I couldn't find a working black marker. No one was home so I had to call my sister and ask her to take me when she got home at 8. This caused a huge roadblock for me because it delayed my artwork from being done as easily as possible.
