INSPO
Green Goblin
For this assignment we were asked to research and create a pot from the past. I researched a pot made in the time frame of 5800BCE-5400BCE. My pot was from africa and I wanted to recreate somthing like it because I liked the simplicity of the shape yet it is unique with the color/glaze choice. To make this pot I used the coil technique.
To start this project off I made a sketch of what I wanted the pot to look like and how I wanted it to be different from my inspo. I then started by cutting a base I used the slip container as my outline. Next I needed coils for my project so I used the coil maker to create a long string of coils to build my pot with. I build up around 3 coils high, then I smoothed out the coils. Doing this allowed me to build fast but not allow my coils to dry before I could get them to my desired smoothness. Every coil layer I slowly widened my pot to give it the shape it needed. The hard part came when my pot had to be curved back in. I had to let my coils sit out and dry before I applied them to my work so that they would collapse in. This took a lot of adjusting untilI I got it right. At the end I went over my pot several times until I had my desired smoothness. At the end was when I realized how lop sided my pot was. But Mr.A said it gave it character so I moved on.
I really enjoyed making this pot as I love things with pops of color. If I were to do this project again I would definitely pay more attention to how my pot looks from far away and close to try and minimize the lop-sidedness, I would also try to make it larger and test my limits with my ceramic skills.
