Artist Statement
The goal of this assignment was to create drawings with full lines, no sketches. We had to draw a hand, and three views of a shoe. The whole point of these art pieces was to create a drawing that looks finished, to make the art look finished you must draw exactly what you see. With the hand drawing and the shoe, drawing was to create a drawing where all lines are finished meaning the closer lines are darker and farther lines are lights.
For these pieces of art, I only used a few materials. Since this art was pure contour we stuck with the idea of using only graphite but different shades/pencils. For all four of my drawings, I used a 4H pencil, a B pencil, and a 6B pencil. The 4H pencil I used to start my drawing to create a light erasable line. Second I used my B pencil to draw over all my lines to add a little depth. Lastly, I went over all my lines again with a 6B pencil and used different amounts of pressure to makes lines darker and lighter. Then I added the darkest lines to where they were needed. Finally, I erased my sketch lines and make them just pure contour lines.
The process of this art was a lot of erasing and re-drawing. To make my art exactly like what I saw I had to re-draw a lot of lines because they didn't have enough detail. I also took a lot of time to really look deep into my art to make sure I incorporated all the aspects I could. This insured that my shoe would look more like a show than just a bunch of random full lines.
