Artist Statement

The main idea of this artwork was to create a realistic self-portrait. You are spoused to draw yourself. The majority of my class used pictures of themselves modern day. I didn't I used a picture of baby me. This was more interesting to me because it still showed my artistic ability. With this art, I was trying to make my drawing and picture look almost identical.

To make this piece of artwork I used only a few simple tools. I used graphite pencils, a needable eraser, on pastel paper. The first thing I did to create this artwork was print my photo and put a grid on it. Then used the same measurements to create the same grid on my pastel paper. Then I started to draw square by square copying the exact shades and shapes. Then continued to do that until every square was done and they all added together to create my self-portrait. I lined up all shadows and shades to create my drawing.

This drawing didn't have many roadblocks besides a few. These few challenges were in my shadows. The shadows caused an issue because it was difficult to get all my shadows to be the same darkness and not be uneven. It was difficult to figure out how to fix this but in the end, I figured it out by using tortillins to spread the graphite.
