For this project, we were told to create a stamp that we could mark our work with for the whole year. The stamp is supposed to be customized to yourself as it will be used on your work. I chose to create a sailboat as it symbolized Maine and the ocean two things that are very close to my heart, and to add a personal touch a engraved a small line near the bottom. I made my sailboat so it would make an imprint of a sailboat whenever I stamped it on rather than making a pushed-in sailboat the sailboat would be pushed out.
To create this stamp I first rolled out a chunk of clay into a log-like shape. After my clay was in this shape I started to shape the stamp into this 3D triangle. Once I was satisfied with how my shape looked I started on my sailboat. To create my sailboat I first flatted my stamp so the surface was flat to work on. Secondly, I used tools to dig out the outline of my sailboat. Once I liked the shape I defined my sailboat into my clay to make my stamp.
I really enjoyed making this stamp because of how it was original to me. Making my stamp original to me made it so I wanted to continue doing my art and try hard to make it look the way I wanted it to. If I were to do this projet again I would want to try and create a stamp that is very in detail and unique.
