Artist Statement
The main idea that guided these pieces of art, was to create shadows with color. To learn the basics of making a shape look 3D with color, we created the shaded spheres. After this, we were changed to use our learning of shadows to apply them to a still life drawing. This is used to make art come alive and use the basic knowledge of how colors can be used for shadows it doesn't always just have to be black. Using color for shadows can show detention and add another level of depth to your art, and the 3D vision of the art.
This work was made mostly with markers, colored pencil, and graphite, I did use watercolor and a white pen but that was only for highlights and my shaded spheres. I used regular drawing paper for my candy still life and I used watercolor paper for my shaded spheres. I choose to use colored pencils and markers as my main drawing tool because when added together they make a finished look when added together. Burnishing my colored pencil added enough color to my work but layering a marker over that really eliminated a lot of the white space and dull color. My first step for my Candy still life drawing was to draw a light outline of my candy photo. After I had my desired outline I added color, first I added all my colored pencils burnishing themto eliminate as much white as possible I went over all my colored pencils with Blick markers this make my work look more finished. Next, I went in with a white pen to add light and reflection to my work.
Overall I really enjoyed making this art, even though I had one big roadblock. My roadblock was about my lollipop. My lollipop had a white stick with some little very light smudged other colors on it. I had to find a way to make my lollipop stick look as white as I could without making the slight color override the white. I waited to do this until after I finished all my coloring with my colored pencils. So what I did was color in the outline of my lollipop stick with my white pen then slightly rub the base of my hand on it. I did this because my hand had leftover colored pencil dust on it which gave the stick the dirty but clean look I was going for.
