Artist Statement
The main idea of this piece of artwork was to create art with different values and materials. We had to use charcoal and ink to make a mixed media drawing. I picked a picture of the woods I took at night and turned it black and white. I made the picture black and white so I could match the values to my drawing and only use charcoal and ink.
This work was made with a few simple materials these materials were ink, charcoal, graphite, a ruler, tortillions, and an eraser. First I started off by printing my picture in black and white and griding it, then griding it to scale on my larger paper. After this I numbered and lettered my squares vertically a-z and horizontally 1-12. After this, I started to copy square for square just enlarging the drawing on the larger paper. During this I only drew the solid trees with charcoal once I was done with this I used ink to add all the little branches and white charcoal to add my moon. These were some of my last steps before I had to clean up my edges with an eraser.
This drawing was fun and not boring to make. One challenge that came up through my work was adding ink. When I added my ink the charcoal started to disagree with the ink. By this I mean my charcoal started to roll up and not let the ink stay on the paper. This made it very hard to add the ink to my drawing.
