The Tree In The Middle

9" x 12"

Acrylic on canvas

I got the inspiration to create this collage from the magazines we could choose from, like national geographic and Time magazines. I was inspired to cut out the tree for the center because my collage, other than the tree, was very dark and gloomy, so adding the tree, brought brightness. I liked the car a lot because it looked cool to paint with the foggy background, and I thought it would go well with my other cut-out pieces.  I chose to paint the stone fort and a sea animal's tail because I thought that if I had darker collages around the edges, it would contrast with the tree in the center and kind of make the tree stand out more as well.

The materials I used while doing this project included magazines, where I found specific things to cut out, and I used acrylic paints that consisted of many different colors. I used canvas to paint the collage, and I used paint brushes, a pallet knife, and a pallet to mix all of the shades and tints for the project.

The process for this project didn't take too many steps to create. The first step I had to do was to choose what I wanted to do for my collage, where I chose four different cut-outs from different magazines. I chose to include a car, the foreground, the tree, the middle ground, and two different backgrounds which were a stone fort and a tail of an animal in the ocean. After this, I painted the collage I created, starting with the background and going up to the middle ground and foreground eventually, adding details to the car and wherever I could to make it look like the collage I made.  While painting the different grounds, I added many layers to the painting to add some texture, which I especially did with the tree.
