Beautiful Oops

Volcanic Eruption

Graphite pencils and colored pencils on drawing paper

9" x 6"

The inspiration I got to create my beautiful oops was the ink blob on the center of my paper. I could see a mountain from one angle, so I decided to draw a mountain range with a volcano in the center, where the ink blob resembles part of the explosiveness of the lava. By doing this art piece, I learned how to draw mountainscapes a little bit better than before I feel like. I also began to be more comfortable drawing volcanoes and lava since I've never really tried that before.

The materials I used to create my beautiful oops were graphite pencils and colored pencils on drawing paper. I used a light graphite pencil, a 2B, to begin drawing out the mountains and to get a sense of how I wanted them to look like. After this, I used colored pencils, mainly brown, black, orange and blue to make it look like a volcano-mountainscape.

The process of this beautiful oops didn't take too much time. My first step to it though was picking out which beautiful oops design I wanted to make something out of.  I chose the one above since I could tell that it looked like there could be a mountain underneath the ink blob. After my first step, I begin sketching out the mountains around the ink blob using graphite pencils.  Additionally, I colored in the mountains with different shades of browns and blacks as well as oranges for the lava to make my center mountain look volcanic. My last step to my beautiful oops was coloring in the sky with a light blue as well as drawing a little sun in the top left corner.
