Final Sculpture

Shells, rocks, and sea glass

The inspiration for this project came from my liking of snails as well as shells and sea glass found near the ocean. I had many small shells and stones that looked really pretty and since they weren't being used, I thought it was perfect for this assemblage project. Also, I saw many other people paper mache their armatures, so I wanted to assemble my object with something else, like shells.

The materials I used for this assemblage sculpture included an assortment of small shells and rocks and sea glass. This was assembled with both hot glue and super glue. For the armature, the materials I used were newsprint, cardboard for a stable base, and tape as well as wire for the tentacles.

The process of my final sculpture took a few steps. My first step was choosing what to assemble and sketching out a few ideas, mine being a snail, a panda, and a butterfly. After this, I had to create an armature of the snail I chose to create using newspaper, and tape, as well as wire, and cardboard to secure a strong base. For my next step, I got small shells and rocks and assembled them onto the armature to form a snail covered with shells as well as rocks on the base of the snail. My final step was filling in the small gaps that reveal the blue tape underneath with small shells.
