Nature #1

Ocean Coast (before kiln)

Ocean Coast (final product)

Glass, glass cutters, hammer, and Elmer's glue

6" x 6"

My inspiration for my first sustained investigation came from my liking of nature and the outdoors. Through this piece, I wanted to show how art can be conveyed through nature. I think the ocean coast resembles this idea because glass, the material I decided to use, connects with this idea. This is because if you melted sand, glass would be produced.

The materials I used for my first sustained investigation consisted of a variety of cut pieces of glass, glass cutters, a hammer to crush the glass, and Elmer's glue to stick it all together. As well as the kiln, to melt the glass into one final product.

My process for my first sustained investigation didn't take very long. The first step of this project consisted of creating my inquiry question, the answer being something I'd want to figure out through the process of the investigation. I chose: How does nature connect with art? Because I was inspired by nature, I wanted to create something that connected to it. I chose to use the material of glass and recreate a landscape I took a photo of since it connects to the outdoors. I began to break glass and attach it to the glass square with Elmer's glue and completed the sustained investigation by firing it in the kiln.
