Intertwined Roots

Clay, watercolors, wool

My inspiration for my first Sustained Investigation was my inquiry question I created: How does being an identical twin impact my life? I thought I could create two clay trees with connected roots, which symbolizes how these two trees have grown up together, just like Nora and I.

The materials I used to create my first Sustained Investigation included clay for the two trees, watercolors, and wool for the tops of the trees and stream surrounding the trees.

This process for my first Sustained Investigation took about 6 hours around. My first step was to create the structure of the two trees with clay. After this, I had to let it dry and then baked it in the kiln and used green and brown watercolors to paint it. Once I did this, I had planned to use moss outside for the tree tops, but because it had rained, I decided to use green and blue wool instead. I wrapped the green/blue wool around the green hill, and tied it off to secure my idea of growing up together or being "tied together."
