The Evergreens

Alginate mold, water colors, hot glue, clay tools, and plants found outside

The inspiration for this project came from my enjoyment of nature and the outdoors. For this art peice, I planned to exemplify my hands as a mountain with one side being a green hill with a waterfall and the other side as a stone cliff with more waterfalls. One of these waterfalls would then loop through the mountain into the cave in between the hands, which creates a small pond.

The materials I used for my hand sculpture included the alginate mold which I used my hands to create a mold, watercolors I used to color my hands, and hot glue for the water in the waterfalls. As well as clay tools I used to carve into my hands and added plants I found outside.

The process for this sculpture didn't take as long as I had anticipated. My first step began with making the mold out of my hands. I then used watercolors to paint the greens of the mountain, the blues of the water, and the darker black/browns of the cave. In between coloring my hands, I carved out a few waterfalls and added hot glue to create a shiny water look on the waterfalls. My final step was where I added a natural element to the top of the mountain to give the hands more of a texture and contrast with the other materials.
