Warmth

9" x 12"

Paint on canvas

I got the inspiration for this project from the phrase "consider organ and tissue donation" and the motto, "bring warmth to another's heart," after deciding this one over my other option. Having to create something that corresponds with warmth, I chose a fireplace to paint. I love fireplaces, especially when it's cold out, so I decided to draw a fireplace with a stone bench, and wooden walls surrounding it. I've always thought fires would be cool to draw, so this project gave me a chance to work on something I had never done before.

The materials I used while working on this project consist of paintbrushes and paint on canvas. I used a few different colors while painting, I used brown, orange, yellow, and grey the most. I used white paint to shade in from the edges of the fireplace to make the fire stand out a bit more. And I used a little bit of black beneath the wood to make it look like charcoal and to create a frame surrounding the fireplace.

This process didn't take too many steps to create. My first step was picking out a saying that goes well with "organ and tissue donation" and deciding what to create after this was chosen. I went with the phrase, "bring warmth to another's heart," and then had to decide what to create, a fireplace I had decided, and how to create the project. For instance, I used paint to make the fireplace I made because of the motto I chose about organ and tissue donation. After I chose this, I started my painting off with the wood panels on either side of the fire, shading the edges of the wood to make it look like wooden panels. After this, I made a stone bench and began to paint the frame of the fireplace and the logs within it. To make it look sort of realistic, I added little flames of fire and some charcoal below the logs. Finishing off the project, I shaded white, yellow, and orange next to the flames to make the fire pop and create warmth.
