10/15-10/19
Objectives:
Continue throwing bowls
Remember to take progress pictures
Make at least two bowls to finish
Week 6 Reflection:
I continued to practice thorwing bowls with minimal success, struggling again with pinching too much as I pulled the cyllinder walls outward. I also found myself using too much clay, it was hard to control and when centering I couldn't get my hands all the way around every edge, so I need more practice centering and working with more than 2lbs clay. I'm confident that I would've made a complete bowl that I deemed good enough to finish had I had more than one period to work last week, but I did get to carve a pumpkin on Thursday which was fun and a nice break from the wheel. I think other than needing to practice pulling the walls, I need to know when to stop messing with a piece, I've noticed that I tend to mess with a piece too much trying to get everything about it perfect, when in fact the step for perfecting those flaws are actually taken during the trimming process. Some goals for week 7 are to make a good bowl to trim, glaze, and finish, and to also stop myself when I try to perfect too much, there's no haste, and also the things that I try to perfect are so minute that they'd hardly be noticed anyway and could be completely corrected during trimming.
