The goal of this project was to use the coil technique to recreate an artifact that we had researched online that was at least 500 years old. I ended up finding an African pot from the Neolithic period. I started by creating my base and stacking the coils and smoothing as I went, making sure to try and get the shape to be as similar to the one in my reference photo as it could be but after the first class that I started this project I didn't wrap it in plastic correctly and the part that I had done the first class had hardened too much to be malleable in any way for me to correct the shape so the pot wasn't as bowl like as it should've been. At its widest, the pot was 10 inches but it did shrink when it dried out to around 9 -9.5 inches. Once the structural part of the pot was done all I did was take a rough serrated edge and run it all around the pot, I didn't glaze it because the original artifact from Africa was not glazed. I was pretty happy with this pot although I could've smoothed it more and perfected it, I was happy with it until just after I photographed it I dropped it off the side of the table and unfortunately shattered it. Leaving me with a final product of a cleaning project.
