Alternate Material

For this assignment, our task was to create anything out of clay that also involved some kind of alternate material in the final product.

It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to do for this project but in the end I decided on making jewelry, the charms and pendants out of clay, and the clasps, chains, and earring backs as my alternate material. To make the charms I simply rolled out a slab of clay and cut them out myself and then stamped designs on them with random tools I found around the classroom. While making the charms I had to be super careful to make the holes in them large enough to account for the shrinkage of the clay, to fit the chains and clasps through them after firing, and also not put it too close to the top of the charm so it would be easily breakable.  The alternate materials were much simpler than expected because I found the leather cord, earrings, and chain already in my house, I also found some gold wire that I used to connect the pendants to their respective chains/cord.

Looking back on this project I'm very proud of it because It's all things that I wear, and I was able to use materials that i already had, I cleared up space in my attic and also made something cute for myself!
