Colored Pencil and ink on Bristol BoardÂ
2/28/22
With this work, I wanted to do my best to create a piece that got across my message that promoted organ and tissue donation. I wanted the lettering to be easily readable, and stand out against the rest of the black and white paper.
I started by creating a one-inch border on y 9 by 13-inch piece of bristol board, I darkened the lines with a sharpie and then began another rectangle inside of the original one which is where I was going to write the words, "Have the last thing you do e saving someone's life... consider organ and tissue donation". I wrote out the words and then decided that the center having color in it would be more eye-catching. So I colored in the block letter for 'Life...', in red colored pencil and then the rest of the inner square a pink. I think that I should not have done what I did, I should have either left it all black and white, which was my original plan, or I still should've colored the inner square, but just leave 'Life...' white so that it really stood out. I had a lot of blank white space between the rectangles and decided to use an ink pen to create lines that loosely resembled the lines that muscles and tissue create. I decided to do this because I had a lot of space, and would need a lot of concentration and time to fill it, but doing things like flowing lines and Zentangles are very fun fr me, so it was entertaining. I also chose to do this because It would look very cool, and can be very eyecatching as it's not something you usually see in typical promotion posters.
I made my original design, but it was suggested to me that I add color in some way, and I thought that it was a good suggestion, and still do, however, I wish I has added it differently because the pink and the red sort of clash, but also blend in with each other, making the words not stand out as much. I think for this work it would've been best if I had left it black and white.
