In the colored candy still life, I was trying to copy the picture of the candy that I had taken previously as accurately as possible. I wanted the forms to look proportional and correct, and to have the shadows look realistic.

First, I thought about which candy I wanted to draw. I decided on a color scheme, warmer oranges pinks, and yellows, and arranged them on the paper so they were pleasing to my eye and I knew that I could draw them correctly. I then snapped a picture and printed it out. I started by sketching out all the shapes, once I was happy with that, I marked where the darker places, the folds/wrinkles in the wrappers, and then I added some of the even smaller details, such as lettering. After my sketches were done, I cleaned up the lines a little bit and started coloring with my colored pencil. I made sure to press down really hard so that we knew the candy was a solid form. After I had filled in the candy, I started on the shadows, I used brown and over that, I used the color of the candy that I was drawing a shadow for. I then did some final touch-ups, made sure as much of the whit possible was filled, it looked accurate, and I traced my border in black.

I went through a lot of trial and error when I was sketching the shapes and trying to get the folds to look accurate, correct, realistic, and make sure they were in the right spots, which required a lot of trial and error but I got the job done eventually. Another thing that was difficult was the block letters on the fruit chews, I wanted the font to reflect the real photo accurately to I had to redraw them many many times. Some other things that were difficult for me to complete were the shadows, I was trying not to use black or lose and of the realisticness, but I had some fails that I tried to salvage but in the end, some of the shadows just don't look right, especially in the left-hand corners. Looking back I definitely should've practiced those before I did what I couldn't undo, but that's something for me to keep in mind for next time.
