Negative Space Leaves

In the negative space leaves work, I tried really hard to show a really stark contrast between the negative space of the leaves and the actual 'air' which was the part that I actually filled in with a design. I think I succeeded in doing so because the way that the leaves, which are completely white, contrast with the background, a whole bunch of random lines, patterns, and doodles is exactly what I wanted, and provides a dramatic contrast.

I started the work by trying to copy down the leaves exactly how they looked on my original paper but resize them to be larger, this was no easy task, but I tried to get the proportions and the positions of the leaves and the space to be accurate. After I finished the leaves outlines, I made sure to outline them in black pen to make sure I wouldn't actually draw on the leaves. I looked at how white the leaves looked and was looking for inspiration on how to fill in all the white space and I remembered the Zentangle's we had done previously. I liked the idea and thought that the Zentangle's we already did were fun so I settled on that idea. I left a minimal amount of white space and made sure that there was a variety in the designs, patterns, doodles that I drew, but I also made sure that there was still some consistency. I didn't use any pencil while filling in the space, I went straight in with a pen.

I took a lot of revision and trial and error when trying to get the outlines of the leaves to be correct and proportional. I did a lot of erasing and revision to get it to where I was happy with it.
