In this work, I tried to accurately copy a picture that I took using scratchboard as my medium.

I started by finding a picture that was funny and had a good grayscale, the photo I did fit both categories. I then printed my image. After I printed the image I used a 6B pencil and scribbled it all over the back, I then flipped the image onto the Scratchboard, scribble side down, and copied all the lines on my image, which were imprinted onto the scratchboard. I decided to start by scratching the snow, which in hindsight was not the best idea because I hadn't figured out the best way to do it yet. I just basically scratched away all the snow with a fiberglass brush. After I figured out way too late what I should've been doing I was almost all the way at the top of the snow, you can see where I finally figured out a better way to do it. I then used a regular blade with a serrated edge to do the background of the trees. I then moved on to doing my main subject: Sophie! I tried my best to leave dark spots to give her coat dimension, but once I tried to scratch her face it didn't work out very well at all and I just had to basically scratch her face off.

I went through a lot of trial and error in this process, some involving the fact that my right arm is like a T-rex arm still, but I also had to figure out the best way to get the textures I wanted accurate. That was the biggest challenge. I definitely should've practiced before I did the snow, or at least noticed it didn't look good before I did almost all of it
