Week Seven
10/21-10/25
10/21-10/25
Objectives:
Throw a bowl I'm going to finish
Try to successfully pinch and pull walls for bowl repeatedly
know when to stop messing with a piece (it doesn't have to be perfect because I can trim)
Week 7 Reflection:
I made a bowl that I'm going to finish! So I finally achieved a goal, yet I still need a lot of practice with the consistency of width in the sides of the bowl. The first photo on the left next to my objectives was my most perfect bowl ever, consistent, round, simply stupendous, however I was dumb and didn't bother to check the thickness of the bottom before beginning to pull it, and the bottom ended up way too thin so that when I went to use the wire cutter to get it off of the wheel, it sliced right over what little foot there was and into the sides of my bowl, basically ruining the whole thing. A travesty to be honest, but obviously lesson learnt and I'll never to that again. Another thing I need to just mess aroud with and adjust is how to keep my hands and mostly my fingers stable when I'm pulling the sides, I definetly need to keep the wheel spinning super fast because sometimes I don't and that messes me up. Next week I may try keeping both elbows locked into my hips, and then still keeping my hands locked together and being more gentle, because sometimes I think I use too much pressure and that's how it ends up spinning out and getting inconsistent thin spots.
