Coil and Carve

The purpose of this project was to explore the use of the coil technique. To start this project I created a circle out of clay that would act as the base of my pot. I then rolled a lot of long coils and started stacking rings of the coils on top of one another to add height, slipping and scoring between each coil. As I went along constructing the pot I smoothed the inside and outside as I went. After I had my desired height and width I let the entire pot reach the leather hard stage so that I could start carving it. I carved a big strip down and then smoothed around it and then repeated it all around the entire pot. Once I was done with carving and smoothing it was bisque-fired, glazed, and then glaze-fired. I was very happy with the glaze that I chose although one thing that I wish I could change would be to smooth the pot even more.
