Extended Blind Contour

Blinded Contour

9'' 12''

graphite, pen ink, watercolor paints

The purpose of this work was to show my creativity, imagination, and art style. I wanted to just be myself and have no outside influences, if I thought of something to do, I did it. For example, the pen designs around most of the border, I do that on a lot of papers I get, and I randomly started doing it on that one so I decided to carry it on until I was satisfied.

It first started with the blind contour drawings that I had done in class earlier that day. I had 'drawn' my hand, myself, and my tablemate. I then decided to add some color, using watercolor paint, purple and blue to my nails, because that was the color of them, some blue so Sophie's eyes, some brown to contour her nose and fill in her eyebrows, almost like makeup. I then added some quick swipes of color to my own face and called it good. I knew that my piece looked incomplete, I started thinking about what I could add, and before I knew it, half of the border was filled in with the black pen doodles. I break up the paper into triangles and fill them in with random designs, I only stopped once I thought it looked complete and I was happy with it.

It was initially really hard to think of what to do with the drawings that I already had, that is why I started with something simples, like paint, and then finally let myself take over which led me to have a finished piece I was actually very happy with.
