For this assignment, we were tasked to create two pinch pots with lids that also represented unity.

My original idea for this project was to represent unity through a character theme, I originally chose Humpty dumpty but soon realized that I had bit off more than I could chew because my progress was slow, I also realized that it didn't really represent me as an artist. I then decided to create two pinch pots, both with different types of lids, but also underglaze them in the same way and sgraffito them similarly. I started by making two pinch pots and securing them together with a coil, then carving out the lid for the larger of the two pots. After I finished the first one, I made one smaller pinch pot and added a lip on the inside for the lid to sit on which was also made of a smaller pinch pot. I added a handle and small feet to the smaller pinch pot. Once the pots had been made, I underglazed the inside of both dark green, and then the outside jet black. I waited for the pots to reach the leather hard stage and then started to sgraffito. Unlike the last sgraffito project, I wanted the sgraffito to look organic, so I just went ahead and started to sgraffito after the underglaze had set and I made sure to leave a similar ratio of carved to uncarved on each pot. After I was done carving I waited until the pots were bone dry, then they were bisque fired, then glazed, and finally fired for the last time.

If I had to do this project over again, I would make sure to be more careful when undergerlazing, there are a few spots where I accidentally messed it up with my finger and that bothers me a little bit. Overall I think this project was incredibly successful, I met all the requirements and I'm very pleased with my final product. All that I would do next time would be to be more cautious and make sure my craftsmanship is 100%.
