Program
KF0GFK and KD0OBA gave a talk on the Meshtastic radio mesh network. Meshtastic radios are inexpensive, long-range, open-source radios that can be used for off-grid communication in areas without reliable Internet access.
How they work
Meshtastic radios use a low power, long-range radio protocol called LoRa to create a mesh network that automatically forwards messages to all nodes in the mesh.
What they can do
Meshtastic radios can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
· Sending and receiving text messages
· Sharing location information
· Tracking people or vehicles
· Sending telemetric data (temperature, pressure, humidity)
Where they can be used
Meshtastic radios are ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and boating, where cellular coverage is limited. The mesh network functions on 100% RF and is totally independent of the legacy infrastructure (cellular networks and the Internet) making it a working communication system in times of need.
How to get started
To get started with Meshtastic, you will need a supported radio device, load the Meshtastic communication software, configure the node, and interact with the node using an app on your smart phone, tablet computer or PC/Laptop.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm
