Gisborne Battery

In 1942 a 5-inch US Naval gun was allocated to Gisborne. Construction of the battery began in July 1942 and the gun was mounted in September 1942.

The battery went into Care and Maintenance in August 1944 and the gun was removed in December.

The observation post was demolished about 2019 for a nearby development. Unfortunately, even in this day and age, there is still little respect for our military heritage.
